An Idle Mind

This Tumblr is essentially documenting my boredom and procrastination with school work. The Internet will be the end of me.

Surprised

I’m still a little shocked by how good The Book of Eli actually was. My expectations for this movie were EXTREMELY low and the film sported about a 45% on the Rotten Tomatoes website. For anyone who doesn’t know, Rotten Tomatoes is the god of all movie critic review sites. Anyway, the film, except for a few problems (the super dreary color palette and Meg Griffin), was extremely satisfying on many different levels.

I could be a little biased. I LOVE post-apocalyptic/dystopia anything and this movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic America—which is sweet. Denzel Washington plays a badass sort of prophet — how awesome is that? And Gary Oldman plays a very competent villain. This film has all the requirements of awesome and even has something to say about our world and faith, not necessarily just Christianity, but about faith in general…WTF is going on?

I expected a mindless shooter film and what I got was an action movie with intelligence, which are always a welcome surprise. Not surprisingly, accepting some  aspects of the ending do take a bit of “faith,” but if you try not overanalyze it to death, I feel most will leave the theater satisfied.
